Grinding steel shot can be specifically divided into three stages: coarse grinding, medium grinding, and fine polishing. Each subsequent stage requires finer abrasives and a slightly reduced rotation speed of the polishing wheel, resulting in progressively smoother finishes than the previous step. The specific grinding procedure depends on the surface roughness of the workpiece. For aluminum materials, except for severely scratched areas, most machined parts can be treated with 160# oil polishing followed by buffing. If needed, a 120# coarse grind may be added before oil polishing and buffing. To achieve higher polishing quality, all rough machining marks left during mechanical processing must be completely removed during coarse grinding. Given the wide variety of steel shot products available on the market, it is difficult to distinguish genuine from counterfeit items; even minor mistakes can lead to purchasing substandard products, causing waste. During medium grinding, any marks left from coarse grinding must also be eliminated, gradually improving the surface smoothness of the workpiece. Otherwise, not only will labor and materials be wasted, but quality cannot be guaranteed. It is essential to carefully select a reliable steel shot manufacturer. Additionally, to avoid repeating grinding marks and to improve both polishing quality and efficiency, the direction of the grinding wheel should cross the marks from the previous stage.
